Here comes the weekend

With less than a week 'til the most goblin-ly night of the year upon us,
I know our house will be full of costume prep this weekend.

We love making costumes and this year is no different, but I have to admit, with our recent move and figuring our new surroundings out, we are a little behind the eight ball!  But, alas, we will persevere, (not without a lot of baked pumpkin seeds to fuel our way)
and emerge from the dining room table, fabric scraps everywhere,
with this year's costume of choice--a leprechaun!

Enjoy your weekend, whereever it takes you.

A match to last a lifetime!

Order your Cecelia dress, from our Tiny Chic boutique,
in colors to match your event or off the rack, whichever suits you best!

Ses Petites Mains & Family House

Ses Petites Mains is proud to be part of Family House's Silent Auction,
to be held at their Bubbles & Bling fundraiser November 7, 2013 in San Francisco.
A fun night of shopping and treats--chocolate tastings & champagne sips--
all while browsing some of San Francisco's most interesting boutique selections.

St. Regis Hotel Lobby, in San Francisco
And its held at the gorgeous
St. Regis hotel
, just a chance to walk through their
beautiful lobby is reason enough for most to attend.

But Family House gives you many more reasons.

Its a win-win, as all this enjoyment actually
funds the important work of Family House.
For those of you who don't know about Family House,
well let me tell you,
they are awesome!

Family House provides temporary housing for families
of children with terminal illnesses who are seeking treatment at hospitals

A souvenir from my weekend

Enjoy these beautiful sights from my quick trip to Aspen & Basalt, Colorado this past weekend.

the mirror pond at the Roaring Fork Club

We stayed at the gorgeous
Roaring Fork Club

which kept my senses busy, taking in all the scents and gorgeous vistas.

The Aspens were in their most vivid yellows while the newly fallen snow dusted over all the luscious colors.

Now we are back to work but its nice to stop for a moment and remember the splendor of it all...
The last bits of snow along the quaint foot bridge

I want to turn this into a print--colored rocks and the crystal clear water

The gondola in Aspen

The only benefit of our incredibly early trip back to
Denver Airport-- the gorgeous light

Press, and more of it!

I had a career in Advertising prior to Design & the thrill of Press has never left me.

There is nothing like seeing Ses Petites Mains in print.  Be it, in the
gorgeous magazines in which we have been featured--
Collezioni, Babiekins, Martha Stewart Weddings, to name a few--; and
on some of our favorite blog sites--Cool Mom Picks, Bloesem, Pirouette.

Chris O'Shea is one of the photographers who so generously requests our styles, and yesterday we shipped off an enormous selection for an upcoming shoot in the Hamptons.
Check out her work --you just might recognize our Sofia Dress--
she certainly has a way with it!

Our new space, coming together

Today was the day to start putting into place our new design space
and get back to all things Tiny & Chic.
Big windows, flooded with light, a quiet space in a building I now share with artists of varied media.  I'll look forward to discovering more about my neighbors and what they do and will be sure to share with you!

In the meantime, here's what our new world looks like, its a work-in-progress,
but now work can finally progress!

And, of course, it can't be all work and no play!

Stepping out to discover just what lurked on the streets nearby, I discovered Linnea Cafe on 18th Street, between Valencia & Mission.

New to the neighborhood too, Linnea Cafe's owner thought it was only right that we should toast each other with a welcome espresso.  And toast, we did!

Tomorrow, we start putting some fall/winter special cuts into work.  I  hope there is enough of a break in the busy day to discover another new & lovely gem, just around the corner!

'Til then...

Minimalist Parenting & Women At Risk

I became acquainted with the Minimalist Parenting blog last year and was struck by their positive message, of streamlining life and our committment to parenting, so that one can actually enjoy the beauty of our children & life.  Simple concepts like buying store bought Valentines, if life/work prevent a  parent from orchestrating a card factory the days before the holiday.  "Its alright" Christine Koh & Asha Dornfest reminded me, as I struggled with the guilt of a prepared card for my daughter's friends.  I, afterall, make things for a living, shouldn't I be able to make a card?  Oh right, I'm busy making a living.  Something had to give and better it be the card choice than my state of mind!

Now I, like many others, are happily awaiting my copy of their book, Minimalist Parenting.  The authors provide all types of ideas on how to make life work--from the small things, like simplify birthday parties ideas--still thoughtful just not over the top in terms of stress or finances; to bigger concepts like time management &
prioritizing your own self-care.

And for the next couple of weeks, they are also leading a dynamic conversation on the Huffington Post for the Stress-less Parenting column.

And what is really wonderful about their book is that when you
purchase Minimalist Parenting between
October 1-31, 2013, they will donate
100%
of the royalties to Women At Risk, an organization that
helps Ethiopian women lift themselves out of prostitution
(which, for many, is the only source of income available).

Even better? Their publisher, Bibliomotion, is matching donations on
the first 100 copies sold.

Make sure that you purchase Minimalist parenting via this link; and
learn more about the fundraiser here.

Minimalist Parenting is an example of my favorite concept at work--
Women helping Women-- near & far.

In October 2012, we traveled to Ethiopia with the ONE Campaign as members of the ONE Moms delegation. We had just finished writing Minimalist Parenting, in which we offer our prescription for the problem of wrestling with abundance in modern parenting. During this life changing trip, the irony of witnessing Ethiopian families wrestling with scarcity did not escape us. We’ve been committed to spreading awareness about Ethiopian initiatives ever since.

Women At Risk is an organization that helps Ethiopian women lift themselves out of prostitution by providing them with practical support, job training, and viable employment. Mocha Club is a US-based non-profit partner of Women At Risk; the very amazing fashionABLE accessories company (which we had the honor of visiting while in Ethiopia) is the result of a collaboration between Mocha Club and Women At Risk. Mocha Club will process our donation to Women At Risk.
